QUICK ANSWER

Elevation materials cost in 2026 ranges from Rs 35 to 90 per sq ft for texture paint up to Rs 450 to 1,200 per sq ft for structural glass, installed. Stone cladding runs Rs 180 to 650, HPL Rs 350 to 700, ACP Rs 220 to 450, exposed brick Rs 120 to 320 and WPC louvers Rs 280 to 650 per sq ft. A typical 1,200 sq ft front face costs Rs 1.5 to 6 lakh depending on the mix.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Texture paint is the cheapest elevation finish at Rs 35 to 90 per sq ft, but it needs repainting every 5 to 8 years.
  • Stone cladding and exposed brick last longest with the least upkeep if installed with proper anchors and sealers.
  • HPL costs more than ACP but holds colour longer and does not dent; both need a framing system behind them.
  • WPC louvers fade in 3 to 5 years in strong sun; coated aluminium louvers cost more and last.
  • Use one base material over 60 to 70 percent of the face and one or two accents, which keeps cost and clutter down.

Elevation materials cost in 2026 at a glance

The front face of a typical G+1 house on a 30 feet wide plot is 900 to 1,300 sq ft. Finishing it in texture paint alone costs Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh. Finishing it in a mix of stone, louvers and glass can pass Rs 5 lakh. The material choice is the single biggest swing in what the elevation costs, so this guide puts the 2026 numbers side by side.

All figures below are installed rates, meaning material plus framing, adhesive or anchors, labour and sealing, for a tier 2 city such as Indore, Bhopal, Jaipur or Lucknow. Tier 1 cities run 15 to 30 percent higher on labour. Premium brands, imported stone and complex detailing push any of these ranges up.

The rest of this post explains what sits behind each number, where each material fails, and how we combine them in our Indore studio to keep the elevation materials cost sensible. For the styles these materials build, see our pillar on modern house elevation ideas for Indian plots.

Texture paint: the base layer almost every house needs

Texture paint cost per sq ft in 2026 sits at Rs 35 to 55 for a basic acrylic texture with two coats of exterior emulsion, and Rs 60 to 90 for silicone or elastomeric systems with a primer and a rough cast or scraped finish. This includes putty on a plastered wall. It does not include plaster, which is part of the shell.

Paint is cheap on day one and expensive over 20 years. A basic acrylic job fades and chalks in 5 to 6 years in strong sun, sooner on a west face. Silicone based paints hold colour closer to 8 years and shed dust better. Over two decades you repaint three times, so a Rs 45 per sq ft paint becomes Rs 150 to 180 per sq ft in real cost, which is why it is not always cheaper than brick or stone on a feature wall.

  • Use the paint for the large plain surfaces and spend the saving on one accent material.
  • Pick two shades at most, a light base and a darker accent; three shades on a 30 feet face looks busy.
  • Dark colours on a west or south face raise the wall temperature and fade fastest.
  • Insist on a water based primer and a crack-bridging coat on new plaster; most peeling is a primer failure.

Stone cladding cost per sq ft and where it earns it

Stone cladding cost per sq ft in 2026 breaks into three bands. Local sandstone, Kota and slate in 15 to 20 mm thickness, fixed with tile adhesive and mechanical clips, land at Rs 180 to 300 installed. Dholpur, Jaisalmer and natural stone wall panels in ledge or stacked form run Rs 300 to 450. Granite, polished or flamed, and imported stone go from Rs 450 to 650 and beyond.

Stone is the material we recommend for the parts of the elevation that get touched, splashed or seen up close: the plinth, the entrance block, the column at the porch. It takes rain and dust without complaint and it looks better at ten years than at one. It is also heavy. Our structural engineer checks the wall and the lintel loads before we specify stone above the first floor, and above 3 m height we insist on stainless steel clips or a dry cladding system, not adhesive alone.

The failures we see are almost always installation. Stone fixed with ordinary cement mortar on an unprimed wall falls off in the second or third monsoon. Stone not sealed goes black with algae on the north face. Both are avoidable at about Rs 20 to 40 per sq ft extra.

FROM THE STUDIO

Ask the stone supplier for a sample fixed on a 2x2 feet board and leave it on site for a week in the sun and rain. Colour and water marking tell you more than a catalogue page.

ACP versus HPL: the two framed panel systems

Both aluminium composite panel and high pressure laminate are fixed on an aluminium or MS framework 40 to 60 mm off the wall, which is why neither is cheap even when the sheet itself is. The frame, the fixing and the labour are half the cost.

ACP sheet elevation cost

ACP sheet elevation cost in 2026 is Rs 220 to 320 per sq ft installed for a 3 mm panel with a PE core and polyester coating, and Rs 320 to 450 for 4 mm PVDF coated panels. For a house we only recommend PVDF coated panels; the cheaper polyester coating fades and the thin 3 mm sheet dents and oil cans in the sun. ACP works for large flat areas such as a parapet band or a stair tower. It looks commercial if it covers more than a quarter of a home's face.

HPL cladding price

HPL cladding price in 2026 is Rs 350 to 500 per sq ft installed for 6 mm exterior grade sheets from Indian brands and Rs 500 to 700 for 8 mm or imported sheets with a 10 year colour warranty. HPL gives the wood look that most clients ask for without the fading of WPC, and it does not dent. It is the material we use most for a single full height band or a balcony backdrop. The joints must be left open 8 to 10 mm for expansion and the fixing screws must be stainless steel.

Exposed brick and WPC louvers: the two warm accents

Exposed brick elevation cost

Exposed brick elevation cost in 2026 depends on whether the wall itself is exposed brick or a brick tile is stuck on plaster. A wire cut facing brick wall with raked and pointed joints costs Rs 120 to 200 per sq ft over a normal wall, mainly in labour and the better brick. Brick tiles, 10 to 15 mm thick, fixed with adhesive and pointed, cost Rs 180 to 320 per sq ft. Both need a silicone water repellent sealer every 4 to 6 years to stop efflorescence and algae.

Brick ages well, hides dust and never needs painting. We use it on a boundary wall, a courtyard wall or one side of the entrance where it can be seen against a pale painted surface. A whole house in exposed brick works, but it needs a mason who has done it before, and in most tier 2 cities that mason is hard to find.

WPC louvers price

WPC louvers price in 2026 is Rs 280 to 450 per sq ft of screen area for hollow sections on an MS frame and Rs 450 to 650 for solid or co-extruded louvers with a UV skin. Clients love the wooden look on day one. By year three or four, ordinary WPC on a south or west face has faded to grey and may bow. Co-extruded WPC with a capped surface lasts longer. Powder coated aluminium louvers in a wood finish cost Rs 550 to 950 per sq ft and are what we specify where the louvers are the main feature and the budget allows.

  • Keep louvers on the north or east face, or under a slab overhang, if you are using standard WPC.
  • Use louvers where they do a job, such as screening a balcony or hiding AC units; purely decorative louvers are the first thing clients regret paying for.
  • Leave a 10 mm gap at the top and bottom of every louver run for drainage and expansion.
  • Fix the frame to the slab or a concrete band, not to AAC block, which does not hold anchors well.

Louvers almost always sit at the balcony, so the choice is tied to the railing and screen decisions in our guide to balcony design ideas for Indian homes.

Glass: the most expensive square foot on the face

Glass on an elevation means one of three things: a large fixed window or curtain wall on a stair or double height space, a glass railing, or a canopy. Installed cost in 2026 runs Rs 450 to 650 per sq ft for 10 to 12 mm toughened glass in an aluminium frame, Rs 650 to 900 for laminated or DGU (double glazed) units that cut heat and sound, and Rs 900 to 1,200 for spider or point fixed structural glazing with SS fittings.

Glass makes a house look expensive because it is. It also makes a west facing room hot unless you use a solar control or low-e coating, which adds Rs 80 to 150 per sq ft. Keep large glass to the north and east, limit it to the stair tower or the living room, and use a slab projection or louvers to shade it. A glass facade on the south without shading is a cooling bill, not a feature.

For glass railings and canopies, insist on toughened and laminated glass with a test certificate. A cheap toughened only panel that shatters leaves nothing in the frame.

What a full elevation costs: three mixes for a 1,200 sq ft face

Here is how the elevation materials cost adds up on a typical G+1 front face of 1,200 sq ft on a 30 feet wide plot, using the 2026 tier 2 city rates above. This is finishing cost only. The plaster, slab projections and the structure are in your shell cost, which you can estimate separately with our construction cost calculator.

Three elevation mixes for a 1,200 sq ft front face, 2026
MixMaterials and areaApproximate costRs per sq ft of face
BudgetTexture paint 1,000 sq ft, brick tile band 200 sq ft, MS railingRs 1.4 to 2.2 lakh115 to 185
Mid rangeTexture paint 800 sq ft, sandstone cladding 200 sq ft, HPL band 120 sq ft, WPC louver screen 80 sq ft, SS railingRs 2.8 to 4.5 lakh235 to 375
PremiumSilicone paint 600 sq ft, granite or Dholpur 250 sq ft, HPL 150 sq ft, aluminium louvers 100 sq ft, glass stair tower 100 sq ft, glass railingRs 5.5 to 8.5 lakh460 to 710

Most of our clients land in the mid range, around 2 to 3 percent of the total house cost. For context, the full 2026 build cost picture is in our pillar on what house construction costs per sq ft in India this year.

The elevation is also one of the items that gets quoted vaguely at the start and grows at the end. Contractors often price it as paint and then the client picks stone and louvers from a 3D view. We list it with the other late surprises in our post on hidden costs that surface during house construction.

How we choose the mix in our studio

The rule we follow is one base, one hero, one support. The base is paint or a plain plaster finish over 60 to 70 percent of the face. The hero is one material at the entrance or the main vertical, stone or HPL or brick, over 15 to 25 percent. The support is a small third element, louvers or glass, that does a job such as screening a balcony.

  1. Decide the orientation first; west and south faces get fewer dark colours, less glass and no plain WPC.
  2. Pick the hero material for the entrance block and keep it within reach of the eye, below 4 m.
  3. Run paint over everything else and choose one accent shade.
  4. Add louvers or glass only where they screen, shade or light something.
  5. Get a 3D view with real material textures before ordering anything; a 10 percent change in the stone area changes the look more than the cost.

When clients are deciding between a G+1 now and a G+2 later, we also keep the heavier materials low so the upper floor can be finished in paint and HPL at a later date without a mismatch. Our comparison of G+1 and G+2 house design covers how that phasing works.

FROM THE STUDIO

Order 5 to 7 percent extra of any stone or HPL and store it. Batches change colour, and a repair ten years later with a new batch always shows.

Next step: see the materials on your own elevation

Rates are only useful once they sit on your own front face with your own plot width, orientation and budget. Our architects draw the elevation, cost each material option, and show them on a photo-real 3D view through our house elevation design service, with 3D visualization of the final mix so there are no surprises on site. Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest material for a house elevation in India?

Texture paint is the cheapest elevation material at Rs 35 to 90 per sq ft installed in 2026. It needs repainting every 5 to 8 years, so over 20 years its real cost rises to Rs 150 to 180 per sq ft. Brick tile at Rs 180 to 320 and local sandstone at Rs 180 to 300 per sq ft cost more upfront but last 25 years with only a sealer every few years.

How much does stone cladding cost per sq ft in 2026?

Stone cladding costs Rs 180 to 300 per sq ft installed for local sandstone, Kota or slate, Rs 300 to 450 for Dholpur, Jaisalmer or stacked stone panels, and Rs 450 to 650 and above for granite or imported stone, in a tier 2 city. Add Rs 20 to 40 per sq ft for mechanical clips above 3 m height and a sealer. Tier 1 cities add 15 to 30 percent on labour.

Is HPL better than ACP for a home elevation?

For a home, usually yes. HPL at Rs 350 to 700 per sq ft gives a wood or stone texture, does not dent, holds colour 15 to 20 years and can be replaced sheet by sheet. ACP at Rs 220 to 450 per sq ft is cheaper and suits large flat bands, but 3 mm sheets dent and oil can, polyester coatings fade, and only fire rated cores are safe. Both need a framework behind them.

Do WPC louvers last on an Indian elevation?

Standard hollow WPC louvers at Rs 280 to 450 per sq ft fade to grey and may bow within 3 to 5 years on a south or west face. Co-extruded WPC with a UV skin at Rs 450 to 650 lasts longer. Where the louvers are the main feature, powder coated aluminium in a wood finish at Rs 550 to 950 per sq ft is the choice that still looks right at ten years.

How much does a complete front elevation cost for a G+1 house?

For a 1,200 sq ft front face on a 30 feet wide plot in 2026, a budget mix of paint and a brick band costs Rs 1.4 to 2.2 lakh, a mid range mix with stone, HPL and louvers costs Rs 2.8 to 4.5 lakh, and a premium mix with granite, aluminium louvers and glass costs Rs 5.5 to 8.5 lakh in a tier 2 city. This is finishing only and excludes plaster and structure.
