Vastu Shastra is the traditional Indian system for orienting a home: which direction the entrance faces, where the kitchen fire sits, where the heaviest and most private room goes. Whether you treat it as belief or as a sensible set of climate rules, most Indian families want their plan to follow it, and resale is easier when it does. Our Vastu expert, Ar. Kavya Mandecha, reviews every floor plan we publish against the same checklist.

The Vastu checklist we apply to every plan
- Entrance in an auspicious pada for the plot facing: north east for north and east plots, north west for west plots, south east for south plots.
- Kitchen in the south east (Agni corner), cooking facing east; north west as the second option.
- Master bedroom in the south west, the heaviest and most grounded zone. See master bedroom Vastu.
- Pooja room in the north east, light and open. See pooja room Vastu direction and size.
- Toilets in the north west or west, never in the north east or over the pooja or kitchen. See toilet Vastu.
- Staircase in the south, west or south west, turning clockwise. See staircase Vastu.
- Water tank underground in the north east, overhead tank in the south west.
- Brahmasthan (centre) kept open or lightly loaded, with no toilet, stair or column cluster.
Vastu plans by plot facing
Start with your plot facing, because the entrance pada and the room sequence follow from it. Browse east facing house plans, north facing plans, west facing plans and south facing plans, or read the direction guides: east facing Vastu plan, west facing, north facing and south facing. The full method is in our complete Vastu house plan guide.
Where Vastu and good architecture agree
A kitchen in the south east gets morning sun and dries quickly. A heavy, enclosed master bedroom in the south west shields the house from the hottest afternoon sun. An open, light north east brings in the cool morning light. Toilets in the north west sit on the leeward side. Most Vastu rules are also climate rules for a north hemisphere, hot country; where they conflict with structure or bylaws, we tell you plainly and offer a remedy rather than a compromise that does neither.
Vastu consultation for an existing plan or plot
If you already have a plan from another architect, or a plot with an awkward shape, our Vastu consultation service delivers a room by room report with corrections that do not require demolition. For a new home, Vastu is included in the floor plan design service at no extra cost.

Vastu House Plans: common questions
Which facing is best as per Vastu for a house?
North and east facing plots are traditionally preferred because the entrance falls in the auspicious north east zone and morning light enters the living areas. West and south facing plots are fine when the entrance pada, kitchen and master bedroom are placed correctly; we design all four facings every week.
Can a south facing house be Vastu compliant?
Yes. The entrance goes in the south east pada (towards the east half of the south wall), the master bedroom in the south west, the kitchen in the south east and the open area towards the north and east. Many of our south facing plans are fully compliant.
Is Vastu included in your floor plan design?
Yes. Every plan is reviewed by our Vastu expert before delivery, and the report of placements is shared with you. A separate paid consultation is only needed for an existing house or a plan drawn elsewhere.
What is the most important Vastu rule in a house plan?
The entrance direction and pada, followed by the kitchen (south east) and master bedroom (south west). Get those three right and most other placements fall into position naturally.
Does following Vastu increase construction cost?
Normally no. Vastu decides where rooms go, not how much you build. Occasionally a remedy such as shifting a toilet stack or keeping the centre open adds a little plumbing or a beam; we flag any cost impact before you approve the plan.
