Shivalik foothill city with a wetter monsoon than Delhi and a mild spring; Corbusier's brise soleil tradition still works for the long hot afternoons. We also check the plot facing early, because Vastu placement and sun path have to be solved together.

Soil and structure

Firm Shivalik alluvium with gravel layers that give excellent bearing, allowing economical strip and isolated footings on most sector plots. Our structural engineer sizes footings and columns from the soil report, which is why we ask for a soil test before the working drawings are issued.

Approvals in Chandigarh

Plans are sanctioned by Chandigarh Administration, Estate Office and Municipal Corporation. Chandigarh plots are usually capped at three floors plus a limited top storey with strict architectural controls on facades in many sectors; the Estate Office approves plans. We draw to those setbacks and ground coverage limits from the first sketch, so the sanction drawing and the design are the same drawing.
