Climate and orientation

Milder than the rest of Rajasthan thanks to lakes and the Aravallis, with a real monsoon; shaded terraces with lake or hill views and sloping roof elements both make sense here. We also check the plot facing early, because Vastu placement and sun path have to be solved together.

Soil and structure

Aravalli phyllite and quartzite bedrock on the slopes with lake side silts in low areas, so hill plots need stepped footings and lake fringe plots need a flood check. Our structural engineer sizes footings and columns from the soil report, which is why we ask for a soil test before the working drawings are issued.

Approvals in Udaipur

Plans are sanctioned by Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) Udaipur and Nagar Nigam. UIT approved plots usually permit ground plus two floors; lake buffer zones, hill slopes and the heritage core have strict height, colour and distance restrictions. We draw to those setbacks and ground coverage limits from the first sketch, so the sanction drawing and the design are the same drawing.
